Campbell and Brauchli, CHS ’07, Receive College Emmy for Documentary
When Anna Campbell and Lauren Brauchli (both class of ’07) entered Columbia High School, they didn’t realize they would receive the kind of skills that would launch them into a career of documentary filmmaking. But now, as the friends prepare to graduate from Ithaca College, they find themselves in the enviable position of accepting an award for documentary film at the 32nd College Television Awards, also known as a “College Emmy.” The competition was tough, with 565 entries from 164 universities. And they attribute a large part of their success to the training they received at CHS.
“[Columbia High School teacher] Mr. Campiglia gave us a great head start,” says Campbell. “He gave us independence as we produced the evening news show.” Brauchli adds, “He taught us the finer points of producing news packages that are similar to documentary filmmaking.”
Campbell and Brauchli’s documentary, "Bound By Hope: One Family's Story", follows a 4-year-old boy with a rare but debilitating disease, Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressive. Says Campbell,“I think most people can see themselves in the documentary. This amazing child lives through pain every day. If he can find happiness, you can too.”
Brauchli and Campbell will receive their award, along with producer River Ferris, in Los Angeles on April 9th.
Matters Magazine sends a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Campbell, Ms. Brauchli, their respective families, and Columbia High School teacher Mr. Campiglia!
